فجعت الكويت بمقتل الشيخ باسل سالم صباح السالم الصباح اثر تلقيه خمس طلقات نارية، وأسعف إلى مستشفى مبارك الكبير، إلا أنه لفظ أنفاسه الأخيرة هناك، ووجهت أصابع الإتهام إلى أحد أبناء الأسرة الحاكمة، وتم احتجازه في ادارة المباحث الجنائية لحين استكمال التحقيقات ، وعلمت أن الجريمة تمت في قصر المسيلة.

وأعلن الديوان الأميري تشييع جثمان الشيخ باسل الصباح عن عمر 52 عاما في تمام الساعة التاسعة من صباح يوم غد السبت، وستقبل التعازي للرجال والنساء في قصر المسيلة.
